Social Responsibility

  • Human Resources (HR) Policy
The “right people” are ART’s most valuable assets and the Group continues to implement change through people.  The focus is on development and full utilization of the great resources that ART employees represent.

The HR strategy is designed to enable the development and retention of skills required to deliver the Group’s set objectives.  The Organization strives to create a workplace in which employees can develop rewarding careers at all levels, regardless of race and gender.  These initiatives are enshrined in our Training Policy which covers training in general, and particularly for Graduate Trainees, Supervisors, Middle Management and Executives.  Detailed training programmes are presented in separate documents.  ART derives great benefit from the pool of diverse talents in its staff and encourages meaningful contributions from everyone.  The Organization seeks to identify and reward employees who consistently perform and deliver to high standards, exhibiting the required positive organizational behaviour constructs expected of ART employees.  This is achieved through a measurement system in place, which encompasses the Paterson Job Evaluation System and the Balanced Score Card performance management tool.

The Group is committed to promoting the highest standards of ethical behaviour amongst all its employees.  Staff members are required to maintain high ethical standards of practice to ensure that the Group’s business is conducted in a manner that is above reproach.  This is achieved through the Group’s observance of the following:

  • Conditions of Service
  • Code of Conduct
  • Code of Ethics

  • HIV/AIDS Policy
The Group has taken its place at the top of the table with companies in Zimbabwe that have taken the welfare of their employees to heart.  In April 2005, Art became a member of the Zimbabwe Business Council on AIDS (ZBCA), a grouping of Zimbabwean companies taking the initiative to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in the workplace.

ART, as part of its corporate responsibility, has developed a comprehensive HIV/AIDS Policy.  This Policy is in line with the relevant legislation that provides the legal framework in helping to prevent and manage the spread of the pandemic.  All employees and their immediate families are covered under this Policy, which caters for both the affected and the infected.

The value of this Policy, which is wholly funded by the employer cannot be overemphasized.  Through the policy, several services can be accessed; namely education and awareness, prevention, counseling, voluntary testing, and treatment through the provision of Anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs).  Key in the policy is the protection of people living with HIV/AIDS from stigmatization and discrimination.  Apart from the employee, the Policy also covers the spouse and children under the age of 18.

Art works with various service providers in the fight against HIV/AIDS, including training of Peer Educators and general dissemination of information on HIV/AIDS issues.  In commemorating World Aids Day on 1 December, Art Corporation gives donations to various charitable organizations every year.

  • Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) Policy
Safety, health and staff welfare are of special concern to the Organization.  All operations subscribe to the Group’s SHEQ Policy, which is the guideline in matters of safety, health and the environment.  The Group operates a Safety Audit Programme conducted by professional independent third parties.

  • Social Responsibility
ART recognizes its position as a responsible corporate citizen and does, from time to time, give the necessary support to the underprivileged in the community.  The beneficiaries so far have included children’s homes, old people’s homes, centres taking care if HIV infected people, abused children, institutions for the mentally challenged and disadvantaged school children.  The donations have been both material and financial.

  • ArtReach
ART has realized that social investment programmes which are strategic for the future should be supported through the provision of resources today.  Education is one such area that ART sees as strategic.  ArtReach is a programme that was developed to assist schools in various projects with the aim of producing excellence in learning.  Donations by ART so far have included stationery, text books, tissues and cash.
